It was held in the Port Elgin Curling Rink. In October, l9bl, we started sending boxes to our boys overseas. This was done every three months for the duration of the war. Our time was devoted to Red Cross activities. Innumerable Quilts, linings, baths, money, food stuffs and candy was donated for boxes and patriotic purposes. Ditty bags were also packed. During l9b5â€"46 our Red Cross work ceased, only for the few boxes sent to our boys who were delayed in getting home. With the curtailment of Red Cross work we started planning to furnish a ward in the Saugeen Memorial Hosâ€" pital. The Institute was divided in two sides, with a time limit for making the required amounts, losing side to enâ€" tertain winners to a banquet which was served in Gowan- lock School followed by an evening of euchre. The first programmes were printed during this term. The Tweedsmuir Book was started in l9h6â€"b7 and Mrs. Spence McLean was named convenor. All members were requested to hand any material they could to Mrs. McLean, but little help was forthcoming. Blue Cross was adopted with 12 members signing up. The 50th Anniversary of the Women's Institute of Canada was celebrated in the year l9h7â€"h8. Ours took the form of a picnic. A patient from Christie Street Hospital, Toronto, was adopted, but he passed away before he could reply to our first box. It was decided to adopt another, but this was not done. A contest sponsored by the Central Housing and Mortgage Co. was undertaken with Mrs. Robt. Chappel as convenor. On Roll Call, "A written suggestion for a topic for programmes for next year", could be very useful to the executive. In l9u8â€"49 a short paper on a certain Motto was used each month. In 19u9_5o our membership fee was rissed to .50¢. We applied for correspondence with an Institute in England. A few letters were exchanged and enjoyed but not too many. A Euchre was held in Gownnlock School to “side funds for the Manitoba Flood Relief netting “20.00. A skit and demonstration on packing an overnight bag “as presented by r"irls from the Home and Fireâ€" side Club presided over by Mrs. A. Mchnnel. A Bingo was held in Gowanlock School netting $143.00. Vifty dollars was donated to the Sangeen Memorial
