BFUCE EAST WOMHWS INSTITUTE DIS‘I'HCT ANNUAL The 59th District Annual was held on May 29, 1997 at. the Harmony United Church, Pinkerton. President Marion Schlorff called the Meeting to order and welcomed everyone. 1997 has been a busy exciting year as we celebrate 100 years of Women's Institute in Ontario. Marion read a Springtime Prayer from the Ideals magazine. All present joined in singing O Canada and reciting the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Mr. Roland Anstett, Reeve of Greenock Township, brought greetings to the ladies. Praising our past accomplishnents and wishing us the best for the future - The Women's Institute for Home and Country. Congratulations on the 100th Anniversary. Doris Needham. President or thePinkerton WI, our hostess for the evening welcomed everyone as we gathered to celebrate the past, and challenge the future. Their branch is celebrating their 85th on June 11. Congratulations Pinkerton. Iieen brown of Jackson WI gave a history of start of the W} from the motto and through some of the changes in 100 years. Did you ever stop to think that 100 years ago, an organization for women was a radical idea? W1 is 100 years of progressive ideas - making home and country a better place to live. Here's to the next 100: Marion Schlorff mentioned the availability of item promoting WI â€" The Banner made for the convention by Michelle Threndyle (committee â€" Julie Mirander) ,- your own Home and Country â€" a video of Town Country TV program of the 100th anniversary â€" Jingle that was used on Feb. 19 and can be used to promote any WI activities and events - a tape with the in song. Helen Taylor moved that the minutes be adopted as circulated. Michelle Phillippi seconded. Carried. Friends of the Museum is not having a house tour this December but had thanked us for our support. Betty Coiberne 832-9543 mentioned their Lobster Picnic at Northshore Park on July 12 from 4 to 7:30 ($25.per person) and the International Dinner on Nov. 8 at the Raquet Club. Financial Si‘atement by Laverne Porter â€" Balance as of May 1, 1997 is $3,824.“ The Variety Concert brought in $248.37 with expenses of 37.42 and 125. for the hall leaving $35.65.
