Sharing Our Heritage A skating rink just past the community hall enticed many glad hockey players from the surrounding communities two or three times a week, Fees for the special games were 20 cents for males, 15 cents for women and 10 cents for youngsters. In 1940 the cooperators stated a business ofmixing and hashing grain for the farmers beside the Community Hall run by Leonard Laventure. We had several businesses in our community: - Adam Young built a store in 1930at Lundy's Corners. In 1936 the highway moved and so did the store. It was hauled by horses at half mile to Highway 17. In 1946 Adam's son John bought the business and closed in 1981. Gas, Tea Room, cabins; groceries, souvenirs, coal oil, etc were sold. 0 .Iohn Stewart on Highway 17 operated a Service Station from 1930 - 1990. 0 Alex Stewart also sold gas (hand pump), binder twine, coal oil, chicken and pig feed, clothing (men’s work clothes), boots, harness’ and groceries. The store closed in 1967 after 73 years of excellent service. A dairy farm owned by McLean Russctt came into operation in 1930 â€" 1990. The milk and cram were delivered to Braeside and Sand Point by a milk wagon, sleighs and a 1924 model ‘T’ truck. A pasteurization plant was built in Braeside in 1938. A garage built in 1957 by Bill Hamilton offered mechanics, welding and auto body repairs. In 1987 the business closed for the public but restoration on antique cars is still carried on by the owner. Neill's Green House began in 1997 â€" enlarged in 2002 â€" selling bedding plants, vegetables, perennials, and flower planters. Our W.l. was formed in 1915 to 1919 7 was reorganized in 1945 and in 2005 we celebrated our 60‘“ anniversary, We continue to be very active in our community.
