She began the first Women‘s Institute in Stoney Creek in 1897 as an organization where rural women could discuss their problems and work together to improve standards of homemaking and citizenship. The Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead has been restored and serves now as the national museum of the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada.
