The ï¬ve Citizen ofthe Year ï¬nalists are Anna Oehring. Joe Rys. 'lim Mancell. and Homecoming co-chairs Brian Dales and Randy Weber. was a very. very tough assignment for the judges. awards chair ‘ Don Leslie told the audience. “All of the nominees won- exceptional people. It was extremely difï¬cult to narrow the nominations down to live.†he said. Residents were invited to nominate deserving citizens until the end of May. A panel of live judges then narrowed the. list to livo in ouch ruth- gory. In announcing the ï¬ve ï¬nalists in Lifetime Achievement. Herald- Times editor John McPhee noted it was a bittersweet moment as four of the ï¬ve nominated had passed away. “There is a popular expression l and a song that tells us that only the good die young." Mi'l’hnz- said. “Well. the good don't necessarily die young, but they do leavu us to“ soon nonetheless." Nominated for a Lifetime Achievement award are: [.lnyd Cartwright. Gerry Cassidy. Dave Jacobi. Carl Larsen. and Ray Martin. One winner from each category will be announr‘ed at a sported awards banquet Saturday. Sept. 23 at the Community Centre.
