M/vl FRANCIS FARM HISTORY The Crown grants to Lots 69 and 70, Gone. 2. S.D.R.. were taken ; in 1856 by Ina Bildson and Benjamin Bildson. The lots were sold to Thomas Bildson in 1863. Robert Russell Francis and his wife Rebecca Metcalfe Francis were married in 1861 and came to the South Line after their marriage and lived with William Metoalfe (Rebecca Francis' brother) until they obtained possession of theSe lots in 186# and built a log house. They had five children; Thomas. Susanna. Joseph, Fannie and George. ‘ The present barn was built in 1886 and a two-storey brick home was built in1901. After the marriage of their son, George Wallace Francis to Edna Smith in 1903. the two families lived in the new . brick house. Robert Russell Francis died on December 1. 1916 and his wife. Rebecca. died December 9, 1916. They are buried in the Hanover Cemetery. Their son. George Wallace Francis obtained title to the propatr in 1918. In the spring of 1919. George Wallace Francis conveyed these lots to his brother. Joseph William Francis, and he and his family went to Saskatchewan. While west, they lived with Mrs. Francis’ :l’ sister and her family. They came back the same fall and bought the p%operty back in 1920. r In 1956. Robert Morris Francis bought the property from his -fither. having rented and worked the farm since 1938 when he was married to Leona Hossfeld. George Wallace Francis and his wife. Edna. moved to an adjoining farm (Lot 68. Cone. 2.S.D.R.) which they bought from Jabez Woods after their son's marriage and resided their until Mr. Francis' death in 1963 when Mrs. Francis moved to Hanover where she still resides. Clark George Francis. present owner, bought the farm from his father in 1971. At that time. Morris Francis reserved a building lot on Lot 69, Gone. 2, S.D.R. and built a new home. The farm is presently carried on as a dairy operation. The following properties have been added to the farming operation: Lot 68, Gone. 2, S.D.R. purchased in 1939 by George Wallace " Francis.
