The land for the first school building was given by Mr. Duncan Macpherson in 18h7, and a small frame school house erected, which _l_i_,___ served the section untid 1869. At this date, more land was bought . from Dougald and Barbara Macpherson. The deed to this land was given â€"“““â€"â€"_ï¬ December 8, 1869, and is duly entered and registered in Registry Office ll.m__w_.. as No. 599h for the county of Middlesex, Westminster township. A 9 larger one-room school was built on this site, and larger playgrounds _*’â€â€˜"â€â€˜â€œ provided for the children. The name of the first teacher cannot -l_.l.___ recall, although I have been told it. ’A Mr. MadKenzie was the second teacher. When he left to study for the ministry, a brother of his beâ€" came the third teacher. Both are buried in Christ Church cemetery, l_____ll. Glanworth. The first teacher I remember was a Miss Davis, Miss Howard, and Miss A.E. Hodgins, and Mr. William Gauld, who afterwards studied for the ministry and became a missionary to Formosa for the Presbyâ€" ,lll___a terian church. Other pupils who became ministers were- Rev. Glen became an architect of note in New { York. Twentyâ€"eight girls trained for schoolâ€"teachers and twenty for *" i "’1 nurses. Many who remained on the farms have taken courses at the School at Guelph; several have graduated and become well-known in business; Someéare wellâ€"known nationally and internationally as thoroâ€" â€"â€"""*†bred cattle, 5 cap, apple and honey exporters.
