GLENDALE SCHOOL The original log school was built in the early 1800's. The first frame building was built in 1867. Land was purchased from Jacob and Ezekiel Dale for a brick school in 1877. Jacob and Ezekiel were the ï¬rst cousins. The first mention of 5.5. 8, Glendale, in the Township of Westminster records was in 1850 By- Law No. 3 stating that School Section No. 8 be assessed for the sum of twentyâ€"eight pounds free of expense for the year 1850 to pay the teacher's wages. There was no mention of money By-Laws for the raising of money to build schools in 5.5. 8 until a debenture issue in 1948 for the first unit of the present building which was built by the School Area. Evidently the old schools were built by subscription of the land owners in the school section. The original school yard bought from Ezekiel and Emily Dale contained a measurement of 48 1/2 perches more or less being composed of part of lot 29 concession 1 Westminster Township for the sum of $45.47. The Westerly part of the old school yard contained a measurement of 31 1/2 perches more or less being composed of part of lot 30 concession l for the sum of $29. 53, being bought from Jacob and Sarah Anne Dale. The school Area Board enlarged the school grounds in 1948 with the purchase of more land from Mrs. John E.Dale.
