Page 2 GLENDALE SCHOOL In all there were four school buildings. The ï¬rst was log. The second was frame. The story goes that it was insulated with saw-dust. The saw-dust became wet and the building rotted out. The third was a one room white brick school heated with a pot bellied stove. There was a turn stile at the entrance, and a wood shed behind, Then a high board fence behind which were located the outside conveniences. In 1945 a School Area was fanned under whosa direction the first unit of the present school was built casing $80, 000. 00. The old school was removed in the fall of 1949 as the new school was built in 1948. A west wing addition was built in 1955 at a cost of $40, 000. 00 . The School area Board was disbanded in 1954. In 1960, the original school bell was reâ€"erected and electrified and daily its sound rang forth calling the children to classes as it did many years ago. On January 1, 1961 Glendale School was annexed to the City of London and came under the jurisdiction of the London Board of Education. At this time there were nine class rooms. FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE TEACHERS: 1896 Fanny Cleveland 1898 Lily Tesky â€" paid $265 a year 1898 Mrs.McMartinâ€" paid $300 a year 1899 Mary Morton â€"paid $250 a year. Is still living in Fergus at 91 years of age. 1900 Laura Hodgins 1906 Laura Buchart 1907 Daisy Andrews 1912 Miss Dunn 1913 Miss Davey 1914 Miss Helen Johnston paid $500 that year. 1915 Miss MacFaddon 1917 Beatrice Powell 1918 Miss Wilson â€" paid $600 that year 1919 Miss Jacques â€" paid $650 that year 1920 Miss Jacques paid $800 that year. 1923 Lulu Cutler paid $1000 that year. She died in March 1928, while still teaching. She was a quaker and the only teacher to die while teaching.
