Riggimés Flora McCall THE HUBREY SCHOOL SS ' 10 WESTMINSTER A good deal of the history of Hubrey School in Westzninater Township is lost to us. for it dates back to the century mark. Only 2 achoell in the early 1300's were known to the people of Central Westminster. - The Log School and the Pond Mills School. The ï¬rst Hubtey School or Log School was situated on the southwest corner of the "Fleming"£nrm. The interior was about 20 x 25 feet. The entrance was from the east in the centre of the wall, and as you entered the door you faced the teacher's desk. Along the south wall, a desk was fastened to the wall and extended the length of the building. The boys sat on long benches arranged according to classes. The girls were similarly arranged on the north side of the school. In the middle of the room wan a large box stove. This school was demolished and the section built its first brick school. The Hubrey School was a real community center. The First Free Church stood ac rose the road and Jock Cochrane'e Tavern on the opposite corner. At one time Westminster held the Westminster Fair at the Hubrey corner. /(,/ f ML
