Mrs Norman Reid, Bruce North District President, was a special gues: and brought congratulations ‘ and contributed to the pro- Hm gram. Best wishes were also read from Mrs Percy Radbourne and Mrs A. A. Samells. Mrs Samells was the DiscrlCt President at the time that the Purple Valley W.l. was organized at the home of the late Mrs C. H. Gilbert. it was a pleasure to have several former members from the surrounding area attend this special occasion. Rev. Norma Secord con- ducted the“ln Memoriam". Mrs Herb Gilbert gave two readings"Centennial Year is Over" and "I'm Fine". Mrs Hector Coveney con- ducted a contest followed by a “Recipe for a good institute" by Mrs Wm. Cook. Readings, "The pli- ght of the farmer " and “How to preserve a bus» band" were given by Mrs Clifford Gilbert and Mrs James Urbshott. Mrs Geo McCartney also presented a contest. A summary of the thirty- five year history of the Purple Valley w_I. was presented by Mrs Jack Uri, shott. The first president of the institute. Mra Herb Gilbert was presented with a W.I. cup and saucer in recognition of her many Years of faithful servme. Following the program a short sing song was held with Mrs Irene Carter at the piano. Mr and Mrs. Ward were presented With many gifts which they gr- aciously thanked everyone for. Anniversary cake was served during lunch time. Dancing resumed again for a time. Mrs Ward is the former Hazel Watchbrn, daughter of the late Wm. Watchorn and Mrs Elizabeth Watch- orn of Owen Sound. Alvin is the son of the late Mr and Mrs Alfred Ward. They were married on October 10, 1934, at the Purple Valley Anglican Church with the Rev. Ja- mes James officiating. Their attendants were Mrs Ward’s sister- Evelyn, Mrs Kenneth Cleaver of Tara and the hestman was Mr Ward’s brother, James Ward. They have a family of two sons, Wayne and Wray and five daughters, Ruth, Mrs Milt Casemore of 0w- en Sound, Grace, Mrs Clâ€" ayton Mackie, of Hope Ness, l‘ Hector Coveney will lieour Linda 3: home.
