. Lady Tweedsmuir Lord Tweedsmuir was born in Scotland on August 25th, 1875, son of Rev. John Buchan. He was an historian and a novelist. He was Governor--General of Canada from 1935 until 1940. He had been called to the Bar in 1901. From 1927 until 1935 he was member of the British House of Commons for Scotland Universities. His father, the first Lord Tweedsmuir, died in Montreal in 1940 and his library was bequeathed to Queen's University in Kingston. Lady Tweedsmuir, Susan. wife of our beloved Governor-General has written many plays, childrens' books and reminiscences. She was an ardent Womens' Institute member in England and Wales. . She was made an honourary Life member of F.W.I.O. She advocated that our organization across Canada compile the histories of our local communities and villages. She returned to England following the death of her husband in 1962 and is still residing there. August 1964
