AMHERST ISLAND BEACON, DeC., 1997 _ _~--_.____ _~ A. I. W. I. CHRISTMAS DINNER - Freda Youell -- The Seniors Christmas dinner held on December 5th at the Community Centre was an enjoyable start to the season and the weather joined in by giving us a little snow. The gaily decorated tables made a perfect setting for the turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and it was an evening of good food, good company and conversation followed by lively entertainment by the Camden Valley Express. Our District President, Mrs. Lawlor, who's husband is a member of the musical group, kindly supplied Christmas carols and song sheets for a sing--a--long and these can now be borrowed from the library. The members of the A.I.W.I. would like to thank the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 539, the Burleigh Lodge L.O.L. No. 482 and the seniors who made donations for their support and the "younger" members of the community who came and helped the few members not yet eligible to sit down with the guests, with the kitchen chores. Special thanks to Karen Fleming who supplied and decorated the Christmas tree which received many compliments from the guests. i Susie Caughey and the 4--H members did a superjob of 7' , - serving the meal, clearing tables and the heavy task of setting up and taking down the tables and chairs - a great big thanks to them all. l I can't think of a nicer way to start the Christmas season than this gathering of members of the community with an age range from our young people on up to us seniors and my last "thank you" is to all the seniors who attended and to those who were unable tojoin us - we hope to see you next year.
