This swim is Crystal Beach On to Sturgeon Point NY and is the given course for Lake Erie. She swam North to South be- cause of the wind conditions. However the general conditions were great. This is a World record for this swim and was previously held for several years by our good friend John Monroe. John and Vicki were a great help on this swim with John acting as Swim Master. The swim was in support of the Rameses Shriners Transporta- tion Fund. Susie is the daughter of Noble Eric and Lady Linda Welbanks of Kingston. Susie is married and the mother of five year old Erica and three year old Trent. She was born on June l4, l97l and has had an interest in Shrine activities since a child. She is a Corporate Security Analyst for Hubbell North Amer- lica in Ajax. Her sister Cheryl, a High School teacher in Amprior, was part of the swim and her brother Shawn, a Firefighter in Kingston. was the Zodiac operator. Mom and Dad were along as support personnel. The peace and quiet and the absence of tall rock cliffs or high water- fallst make this a unique tranquil experience for those of us who VISI . That from someone who travels the world giving concerts. After Amherst Island Janina was off to San Francisco and then Europe where she and Harry have a residence in the Bavarian mountains. Their principle residence is now in Connecticut al- though Janina grew up in Montreal, - and one 0f her old class mates from Montreal traveled t0 the concert just to hear her. The Shriners are North American in that they are Shrine Masons from Canada, United States, Mex- ico and Panama. Their philanthrOpie cause is the treatment of chil- dren up to l8 years old as needed in their 22 Shrine owned hospitals. The Canadian hospital in Montreal is the primary hospital for Canadian chil- dren. Other hospitals that Canadian children may go to are Erie Pennsylvania and Boston Mass. Their specialty for treatment is children's OFthOPe' dics, burns and spinal cord research- Children are treated in Shrine hospitals at no COSt to the patient or parent. The cost Of transport and lodging is covered by the Shiners Transportation Fund.
