1521111 South ifltatt'itt Perth South District held two events to celebrate 100 years of WI. A banquet was held in Kirkton--Woodham Community Centre on April 9, 1997. A display of "Treasured Memories" by the Tweedsmuir curator featured a collection of bedroom, parlor and kitchen articles. The district P.R.0. displayed centennial keepsakes. Guests included FWIO President, Marg Harris, London Area President Gladys Egelton, Board member Mary Nicklas, and Jack Matthison, honourary member of this District. The guest speaker was Helen Barker who spoke about "The Mary Stewart Collect". A fashion show "Fashions Through the Century" concluded the evening. On Sunday, April 27, 1997 the District held a worship service in Woodham. Fourteen members and guests enjoyed a meal similar to that served in 1897 and the planned programme was followed. Some accomplishments that the branch have made are: published own cookbook, bought and maintain our W.I. hall, sponsored 4H clubs, helped reduce speed limit in village. A special presentation of 50 and 60 year pins were made to members of Avonton. Mildred Murray compiled a 100th anniversary book of articles and photos for the branch Our branch celebrated its 73rd anniversary in 1997. The branch had a display at the Stratford Fall Fair and Stratford--Perth Museum to display the 100th anniversary theme. The guest speaker was Evelyn Matthison, whose topic was "How to compile a house log". President Lois McIntosh read the names of members who had passed away and a history of our branch was written by Edna Bell. Lunch of Johnny cake and syrup and sugar cookies was served iflrtth gently Eistrirt 351m (Emile Elm Grove W.I. met Feb. 19, 1997 to celebrate the Women's Institute's 100th Anniversary. The suggested programme was followed. We displayed antique articles and had a contest on kitchen utensils following with a social time spent over biscuits, jam and beverage. Some of our members attended the Convention in Hamilton in June. Our branch presents new babies in the community with engraved spoons. One of our members Elimbeth Monteith, was honoured to be chosen for a Centennial.Award. A special meeting was held at the Nursing Home the following day to present Elizabeth with her award Branch members attended the Church service organized by Perth South District in April We also attended the banquet in Kirktorr. Our meeting at held at Life Member, Viola Kraemer's home. The room was decorated with antique clothing hand crafts, pictures and Tweedsmuir books. Members came dressed in their finest, turn-of~the century clothes. President, Jean Morris were her grandmother's wedding dress. Helen Sinclair gave the motto "Memories of the Past", followed by a contest on W.I. During 1997 a memory of the past was given monthly.
