QRafierrafnnuh On February 19, 1997 our small group gathered to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Institute in Ontario. We met at our local Community Center. Several of our members go south for the winter so they missed out on the celebration. We used the prepared programme. Several members came attired in centennial outfits. On a less happy note this was one of the last events to be held in the hall, formerly S.S.# 8, Bosanquet Public School. The Institute had maintained the Centre since 1964, when the new Central school opened. Now due to rising costs and improvements needecL the branch felt they could no longer continue. Following the programme everyone enjoyed a lovely luncheon from the suggested menu. This was to celebrate the 100th Anniversaryof the WI. Welcome was extended to the seventy-five people who attended from the community and area by President Janet Smith of Moore Center and Carol Thompson of Birkhall W.I. District President Anne McGugan, Provincial Board Director Vera Miner, and Provincial Public Relations Officer Mary Janes brought greetings to the group. Mayor Mary Jane Marsh, of Moore Township brought greetings and presented certificates to the presidents of Corunna, Moore Centre, Brigden and Birkhall Institutes. During the afternoon members presented a drama dialogue with historical facts of the beginnings of the Institute Tweedsmuir History books were displayed. Curator the museum, Laurie Ma son displayed artifacts from the Victorian era. A Victorian Tea was served by the members to the gathering. Swing granite Sunny Brooke Women's Institute of Larnbton county, celebrated the Centennial of the Institute at Brooke Central School, on February 19, 1997, in the averting Their special guests were Aughrim and Brooke branches. Also welcomed were members' families, friends and neighbours, charter and former members, Mayor and councillors. The township ofBrooke had declared the week of February 16 - 22 to be Women's Institute Week Mary Janes, F.W_I.O. Public Relations Ofi'icer and Anne McGugan District President brought greetings. Our evening highlight was the announcement and introduction of four local Centennial Award winners, Anne McGugan, Marcia Podolinsky, Marion Neville and Nola Tait. The evening concluded with an old fashioned lunch and visiting. Events that Sunny Brooke took part in during 1997 were: Centenial Day in Hamilton in June; the branch celebrated its 15th anniversary by inviting ten branches to a pot luck supper, with special guest, Marg Harris, F.W.I.O. President; and a display was entered at the local fair and won first prize.
