munknka fiuuth ifltrrtrttt Fifty-two members past and present, gathered in the morning at the Rotary Center in Bracebridge, to celebrate 100 years of Women's Institute on February 19, 1997. Four branches, South Macauly, Windermere, Sandford, Glen Orchard are currently active, Members from three disbanded branches attended, Barkway, Falkenburg and Bracebridge. President, Pauline McCausland could not attend, so Helen White acted on her behalf by welcoming all members and friends. Each lady present signed a booklet with name and branch; copies were made and given to each branch at the District Annual. The planned program was used with all branches taking part. The suggested lunch menu was also served and enjoyed Helen White cut and served the special decorated cake, Nelda Morrison, member of South Macauly designed a tartan pattern which features the cornflower blue of the W.I., gold, red, black and white signifying specific aspects related to the organization. Louise Clodd, Susan Goltz and Margaret Dutton are all descendants of the first president of the Windermere branch I Following lunch, time was spent browsing through the Tweedsmuir books, 1 Visiting and renewing friendships. The W.I. has been a part of Muskoka's history for close to 100 years. Glen Orchard } Mustache North ifltztrirt CAspirin We started the year with our meeting on February 19, 1997 when we invited two other branches in the District and reenacted the first meeting Dwight Branch was hostess for the meeting. It was a banner year for the branch as we made two banners; one, the first ever for the district and the other for the branch. Both were taken to Hamilton and the District banner was in the Parade of Banners, and the branch banner was used at our Sales table. Also a wall hanging was made as part of the 200 years celebration of Yonge Street (Highway 11) Our portion was from Severn Bridge to North Bay. In April our members joined with other branches of Parry Sound District in Burke's Falls to celebrate again, and in centennial dress. We also celebrated our 49fll anniversary by going out to dinner. Branch secretary Jean Tandberg and Board Director Margaret Crawford were interviewed on cable TV. promoting the WI. Video tapes were made of it. In June the Hamilton convention found us manning a Sales Table and President Joan Risto and secretary Jean Tandberg as tour guides. Jean also assisted with meal planning and other arrangements for the convention. Our members enjoyed a bus trip to the Lee in September for the Harvest Luncheon. Helen White planned a bus trip to the Erland Lee Home for the Harvest Luncheon on September 24th Members from the other branches and our own enjoyed the wonderful trip and superb luncheon. All admired the changes and improvements made at the "Lee" 0n the team trip home the bus took us to a vineyard, where we purchased fruit and mementos.
