merit] 012nm Etatritt (Eahshill Our branch celebrated the Centennial of WI. On February 19, 1997 by following the plans set out for all branches. At every meeting throughout the year the Anniversary was marked in some special way by readings, displays of antiques, books, clothing and memorabilia. A copy of our history book "For Home and Country" was presented to Snatford Public Library. To mark the centennial of the WI. of Ontario, Gladshill branch presented history book to Stratford Public Library. (firafielrihge The Women's Institute met on Febnrary 19, 1997 to celebrate the Centennial. The meetingwas hosted by Donna Shearer. The suggested programme was followed with Brenda Coxon presenting the Motto, and reviewing some branch highlights. To commemorate this occasion, members were each presented with Gravelridge name pins. Honourary Life members, Helen Henry, Mabel Westman and Ida Wetlauft'er were recognized and given plaques. Tweedsmuir books were on display. To conclude the meeting, a lunch similar to 100 years ago was served with Anniversary cake and decorated with the WI. emblem, made by Florence Gropp. The longest standing member Helen Henry had the honour of cutting the cake. 4 Branch members at the Anniversary celebration. ifinflt North Eintrirt We celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Women's Institute all year. The 13 branches in the District report having centennial meetings. In April we held a AC.W.W. church service, attended by members and non members. Also in April, a Craft and Quilt Sale was held, where we displayed Institute projects, etc. and promoted the W.l. Centennial. Members constructed a large birthday cake. We participated in 2 parades, the theme being "Rekindling Past Memories". Members were dresses and hats dating back to the early 1900's carrying WI. signs and the District Banner. Our cake was displayed. Ten members from the District attended all sessions at the convention in Hamilton and more attended on the Saturday. Board director, Winnifred Mann and member ofListowel West branch was one of the recipients chosen to receive one of the centennial awards. Junior Provincial Board director, Donna Henderson of the Jr. Maple Key branch played an active part at the Hamilton conference Celebrating at Listowel Fair b Erittntt All branches of Perth North District attended the 65th Anniversary of the Britton Women's Institute held in the Britton Hall on Nov. 15, 1997. Each guest had to wear a hat of the past, present, or future, which included hats worn by grandmothers, great aunts, mothers, for weddings, asa bride, or made from a scarf and paper hat. In keeping with the centennial as old fashioned tea was served- tea biscuits, cheese curds, summer sausage and jams, followed by cake-Christmas/Gumdrop - Britton's specialty. Winners of the hat awards were Lenore Stone, Joyce Koch, Agnes McIntosh, Muriel Hawthorne, Madeline elrns, Marg Cleland and Shirley Verstoepl 4 "Hats ofi" in celebration.
