fillentnnnh The members and friends of the branch met on February 19th 1997 at noon, in the Senior Citizen Club, Woodland Beach and and all sat down to a meal reminiscent of one hundred years ago, with homemade soup, tea biscuits and jam, gingerbread with whipped cream, johnny cake with maple syrup, raspberry punch, tea and coffee. The prepared programme was followed A collection was made for the Headquarter's Fund. Special draws were made and won by guests. As part of its centennial celebration Allenwood Women's Institute celebrated its 90th Anniversary at Bayshore Seniors Hall, Woodland Beach on October 1, 1997. The members were joined by approximately 75 guests from area branches, including former members. A photocollage gave a historical view of families from the area, some still in W.I., A short programme followed with 2 dance routines and. Sisters Eileen Kenny and Marguerite Stone sang their original lyrics to the tune Oh Dearie Oh with each branch mentioned in a verse, written to celebrate the Centennial. A slice of the anniversary cake was enjoyed by all. They then decided support two projects during 1997. They donated toward playground equipment to Our Lady of Lourdes Separate School in Elmvale and also toward the Rainbows Programme. Rainbows is a volunteer organization which is apeer support group for elementary school age children who have suffered the loss of a parent through death, separation or divorce. 4 Receiving donation for playground equipment is Janice Minnings, Co-Chair of project, from Lorraine Cobbett, right, and Mary Stone, left, who are Secretary-Treasurer and President of Centre Flos W.I. (llrnsslanh In Octoberof l997'fortheir Centennial Project,1:he members of Crossland Women's Institute built two planters at the entrance to the Elmvale and District Lions Club, located on Concession 7, Springwater Township. Spring bulbs and Fall mums were planted and the members hope to plant summer annuals, and maintain the beds. A picnic table was also purchased and donated to the Park area. A small plaque was attached to the table with the branch name and year as a Centennial project. The eleven member branch share the use of the Lion's Hall for special meetings and community get-togethers. They help to maintain the kitchen with dishes and utensils. The branch participated with Simcoe Centre District in the February 19th celebration. The branch was formed in 1910. Leda Archer, Joan and Donna Klein Gebbinck, Shirley Robertson ) gmirtesing Sixteen members gathered in the Minesing Community Centre on February 18th 1997 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Women's Institute. The planned programme was followed with members participating They also took part in a skit about the Women's Institute, with Reta Tanner acting as Adelaide Hoodless at a Ladies Night meeting of the Farmer's Institute. The hall was decorated and a special Amriversary cake was centered on a table'beneath a large W.I.sign. Life member, Betty Haight cut the cake. Former presidents, and members of the community were the invited guests. Cake and beverage was served. Minesing's Centennial project was assembling a float and entering it in the community's Mini- F est parade, held Febniary 8, 1997. Some of the items on the float were a sewing machine, wash tub, stove, bread making equipment quilting, a baby's cradle and baby plus a rocking chair. Life member Betty Haight >
