Mgehrihge The Wybridge branch celebrated our 100th Anniversary on February 19, 1997 with a programme to which more than 100 guests were invited As a result, we gained 3 new members for our branch. Maude Haughton, a . member for 71 years lit the Anniversary candle. Pins were presended to long time members; four of the ladies present have been members for frfiy - nine years or more. Secretary-Treasurer ; gimme East Biattttt On Monday, February 17, 1997, members of Simcoe East District W.I. gathered in front of Orillia City Hall to raise the W.I. flag on the city flag pole. They were congratulated on 100 years of community work by Simcoe East M.P.P., Al McLean and Orillia Mayor, ClaytonFrench. The Orillia Collegiate Band played "0 Canada" In spite of the bitter cold morning, members enjoyed attending this event to kick off our Anniversary year. The flag flew proudly for one week The local city paper published a special page in celebration of the Women's Institute. A Women's Institute display booth was set up at the Orillia Fall Fair. A 100':h Anniversary Cake was served to 100 visitors to the booth. Information Days were held at Orillia Square Mall. Visitors received white/blue camations and W.I. pamphlets Displaying the W.I. tartan are: Glenys Hepinstall, President, Nelda Morrison, tartan designer, Marg Harris, Prov. President and Wilma Carter, Secretary b Einnqazhire-firntrea Hampshire-Ardtrea Women's Institute President, Jeanette Barlow and Vice-President, June Heels presented a copy of the history book "For Home and Country" to C.E.O., Paul Blower of the Orillia Public Library in April of 1997. The members met on Febmary 19, 1997 at the home of Lois Telford, Carlyon Line, for their Centennial celebration meeting flush? Rugby Women's Institute celebrated the Centennial, as did all other branches on Feb. 19, 1997, reminiscing and enjoying a pot-luck lunch, with johnny cake and maple syrup for dessert. A Centennial Rose was purchased and planted by the members. Some members attended the flag-raising in Orillia and others, the Hamilton Conference. fiefiern firihge Severn Bridge Women's Institute organized a bus trip to the Er'land Lee (Museum) Home and the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Home. Fifty-two members and friends enjoyed a lunch and tour of the buildings. The branch met on February 19, 1997 to celebrate the W.I. Centennial at the Severn Bridge Community Hall. Everyone was invited to "Celebrate the Past and Challenge the Future". flamingo Washago Women's Institute celebrated the 100'h Anniversary on Feb. 19, 1997 at Heritage United Church Hall. Nearly all the members were present for a skit . "100 Years Ago" with May Brown as narrator as Mary Love as Erland Lee and Ethel Foster as Adelaide Hunter Hoodless. Washago W.I. donated and planted a Centennial Rose in the Washago Memorial Garden, as their project. We made a float and paraded it in the Canada Day parade. It was a very large "birthday cake". 9 ft wide and 6 ft high, complete with yellow and blue lettering and 100 candles. Several members attended the Convention in Hamilton.
