5%an ifiirte grant South Line Brant Women's Institute met with three other branches on Feb. 19, 1997 in Walkerton to celebrate the 100th Anniversary, Our branch set up a display of WI. artifacts in the window of a local business in Walkerton the week of Feb. 17 -22. As a tribute to the 100 tlr anniversary, the members decided to plant a flower bed beside the Blue Spruce tree that was planted for their 50th anniversary and is a replica of the WI crest with yellow daffodils and blue hyacinths. Our branch also took part in a variety program in April in Elmwood South Line Brant - "Window display of W.I. artifacts" > 1837 -- 1887 100 YEARS Milliarrnft The Williscrofl Women's Institute held a Tea and Bake Sale in Heritage Village, Paisley. The Town Hall was decorated in blue and gold Former members and friends were invited to celebrate with present members in our celebration of 100 years of WI. The menu for the tea was taken from the suggested menu and in keeping with the theme, the bake table sold scones, tea biscuits, tarts, cookies , loaves and jam. With all members participating, it was a fun afternoon The branch also held a special meeting on Feb. 19, 1997. The branch invited as their guests, former members from disbanded branches: Ripley, Kincardine andArmow. President Emily Bushell welcomed everyone and read a poem "My Mother Goes to WI." Everyone joined in singing the centennial song The progam followed the suggested format with members taking part. Members dressed in period costume and the hall featured displays of quilts, fancy dishes, dresser scarves, tablecloths, etc. Emily Bushell had her own display of bread, buns and tea biscuits made from a starter yeast which has been used by the family for generations. The anniversary cake was made and decorated by Marjorie Nicholson and cut by the President. A special collection was taken for the Headquarters Fund Bervr'e WI. celebrated its 90th anniversary in August 1997. { President Emily Bushell lighting the Centennial candle.
