ABBMM D'ARCY LEE --- 3rd generation --~ son of John. Abram was the youngest son of John. He continued to live on the fans and married Jemima Pew in 1855, and they had 5 children: Karcus, Kaggie, and Erland. many changes had taken place over the years, it had changed hands several times, but came back into the lee name and remained such until the prOpertv was sold to the Federated Wamen's Institutes of Ontario in 1972. Abram was an aggressive and meticulous farmer, and he tore down the old log house. He planned the building of the front part of the present house which consisted of two large rooms (the present dining room with the small kitchen behind as one room, and the living room being the other) divided by the stairway leading to the bedrooms above. It mas completed in 1873. When this part was built, fireplaces were passe: ---- the brand new stoves had come in by then. (Abram was Kiss Karjorie Lee's grandfather, and as Erland and his family lived with the grandparents, and eventually inherited the farm, Karjorie has recounted much of the informatiou and happenings (1975)). This new part was of gothic architecture and was built in front of the "old house" with the two walls butting. The boards are placed upright and the joins covered with battens. It has always had green shutters 0n the lovely bay windows, one on each side of the front double~door, with the unusual carved verge boardSOf maple leaf design along the gables. These verges were hand-- carved from home--grown lumber by a 14 year--old carpenter apprentice named hoore. His original pattern
