LOndon. She teaches High School in Guelph. She married . ~ Sehreiber yLAQUE In 1967 permission was received from the Archaeological and historic Sites Board of Ontario to erect a plaque on the Erland Lee preperty commemorating the "First'Women's Institute 1897". This plaque was erected, with pennission from the Lee Estate, on October 1st, 1967. Approximately 250 attended. The inscription reads: "The world's first Women's Institute was organized at Squire's Hall, Stoney Creek, in 1897. Erland Lee, a founder of the Farmers' Institute, assisted by his wife, arranged the meeting. About 100 women from the Saltfleet Thun-- ship district attended and were persuaded by Mrs. Adelaide Hoodless to fonm an organization of their own to improve their skills in the arts of Homemaking and Child Care. Here, in the Lee home, Mr. Lee subsequently helped to draft the Constitution of the new society. Mrs. E. D. Smith of Winona became the first president of the "Mother Institute". The Women's Institute movement has since become a world-wide organization." Miss Marjorie Lee and Mrs. Frank Lee unveiled the plaque. Electricity was installed in 1921 when hydro was brought through for home use. The bathroOm was put in after hydro came.
