Pictorial trip to the North for Saltfleet w By Ruby Wllllams The January meeting of Saltfleet Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. C. Kott with the president Mrs. J.C. Hick- more presiding. As the entertainment for the meeting was designated as film night, our secretary Mrs. Kott showed her most in- teresting pictures of Arctic Adventures which she took on her trip to the Nor- th West Territories, the Yukon. and Alaska last year. There were pictures of gold mines. pingos at Inivik, which are hills of ice the natives dig rooms into to keep their frozen provisions. lnivik is the maior supply centre of the Mackenzie River Delta with a population of 750 Eskimo origin. At Yellowknife, interesting pictures- were taken of kennels where they are breeding and developing the pure Alaskan dogs. Several slides were shown of the Bush Pilot's Monument (British Freighter), the first aircraft of its type to land at the North Pole. Pictures were shown at Dawson City and the home of Pierre Burton, where he lived as a child. It was amazing to see the beautiful flowers around the Burton home. Pictures at wild flowers also made a great show. These were the lireweed and the Ar- ctic Cotton. ' om en's Institute By levin Otter, the party ilew to Aklavik and visited a handicraft show as the Eskimos are noted for their carving and handicraft. The attendant was a smiling Eskimo lady who had been a Women's ln- stitute member. Mrs. Katt remarked on the good food they were sewed while on their trip, especially the tish -- the Arctic char -- and how she had enioyed her trip to the North. Mrs. Hickmore thanked Mrst Kott for showing her most interesting pictures and explaining to us about that part at our country which so tew of us have seen, The hostess was assisted at the lunch hour by Mrs. F.B. Felker and MissLoreena Seaman. '
