Larry Dube remembers well the feeling of travelling abroad during his 32 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. His experiences of travelling through the big cities and small towns and villages that dot Canada from east to west and even as far north as Alert inspired him to fly the flags of the country's 10 provinces, two territories, the Maple Leaf and this year's "Canada 125 " flag to commemorate Canada's 125th Anniversary. Larry worked at his project over a period of months. Illness has made it possible to work for only a few minutes at a time. "It wasn't a rush job, " he smiles. He arranged the flags in a line from east to west with the two territories on either end. The maple leaf flies four feet higher in the middle of the line, Larry's wife, Mildred, planted rend and white flowers at the base of the flag. He says some people have questioned whether Quebec's fleur de lys should be a part of his ensemble. He assured them there was no mistake, that they all belong together. "This is part of what I am," says Larry, watching as a brisk breeze flags the colourful line of flags on his front lawn. "I'm very proud to be Canadian."
