Warner offered his customers such necessities as flour, feed, wood and coal, and through hard work and good service he earned his general store the reputation of being the best of its kin in eastern Ontario. He probably never dreamt that the turn of the century building which housed his business would go on serving the community into the 1990s. The Russell Public Library re-opened its doors at the former general store on Mill Street on January 8. Controversy initially surrounded the issue of finding another village location for the Library to replace its former basement home in the Masonic Hall on Concession street. The situation was resolved with the decision made to keep the library in the village core. Here for Over 100 Years "Weave had a library for well over 100 years" explained Ina Kinkaid, who has served as the Russell Librarian since 19770 "The first was constructed around 1887 at the site where the post office is now located.
