While the R.M. Warner building which now houses the library has been updated in terms of structural necessities, the building has been restored to retain a great deal of its 1800's appearance and atmosphere. The original metal embossed ceiling spans a large room lit with period light fixtures and warmed with the smell of new wood. The porched facade with its wide steps looks as it still could accommodate a waiting chile with penny candy as well as one with a good book. Almost 12,000 Titles Over 11,000 English titles on subjects widely ranging from ancient history to Meach Lake and from the latest sci-- fi read to tips on making the perfect pancake await area readers of all ages and interests. Well-organized "stacks" invite browsing and a reference section at the back of the library has ample table space. The children's area at the front of the library is particularly attractive and also contains over 800 French language books. Barbara Boland, Ola Atkinson and Ghyslaine Gaydamack assist Mrs. Kinkaid with the library responsibilities. Despite today's abundance of computer and video games, television and other activities, "the library is still very important and is well--used by our community," says Mrs, Kinkaid. "Russell is growing and it seems that one of the . first places that people come to is the library. We have many new members". The Russell Library is open from 2--5:00 pm on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays' from 12--2:00 pm on Wednesdays; and from 7-9:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. V ---- Wayne Hieben. Citizen photos
