work of organization has progressed so rapidly and along such substantial lines. For this great credit must be given to the ladies who visited the different districts and assisted in the formation of the Institutes. Miss Blanche Haddock, Miss Laura Rose, Miss A. Hollingworth, Mrs. A. Kinney, and Mrs. J. L. Smith each worked hard to bring about this result. With the thirty-three institutes organized, twenty-nine of which are regularly reporting progress to this department, we believe much will be done to lighten the labors of the women on our farms. What May Be Accomplished In towns and cities for a number of years the women have had an easier time than their sisters in the country. Anything that would tend to lighten the labor of household duties has been introduced. Their kitchens have been supplied with running water, and separate rooms for bathing have been the general rule. Every kitchen has a good range, and plenty of light granite- ware utensils. Furnaces and hot water boilers have been found more economical than the old stoves, and no one will deny that they carry with them added comfort. On the contrary very few of the country houses are furnished in this way, and we believe it is not so much the lack of means as a lack of knowledge of the way to go about securing them. Through the Women's Institutes these matters may be thoroughly discussed, as well as many other subjects connected with women's life and work. Brief notes of the year's work were then outlined for the following districts, -"Brant, South; Bruce, West; Bruce, South; Durham, East; Durham, West; Grey, North; Halton; Hastings, East; Hastings, North; Huron,'West; Huron, South; Lennox; Lincoln; Muskoka, South; Northumberland, East; Northumberland, West; Ontario, North; Ontario, South; Peterboro, west; Peel; Simcoe, South; Union; Victoria, East; Welland; Wentworth, South; Ybrk, East; York, West; and Amherst Island."
