In 1983, Smith Quinte Enterâ€" prises of Belleville, donated a 7 hectare (17.3 acre) parcel of land to the Prince Edward Region Conservation Authority in memory of Harry Smith. In recognition of this, the property was named the Harry Smith Conservation Area. The Harry Smith Conservation Area includes a small pond in an amphitheatre like depression, surrounded on 3 sides by a 25 meter escarpment which provides excellent Viewing opportunities. The Harry Smith Conservation Area is the original site of the Village of Roblin's Mills. Many foundations of past buildings can be found on the property. During the early 1800's, a lumber mill was located at the outlet of the pond. The pond was originally created to move the logs into the mill. In 1842, Roblin's Mill was built at the southern end of the pond. This mill was used for flour. Both mill foundations can be identified today. The mills were operated by the Quinte Loyalists who settled at Ameliasburgh some 200 years ago. In 1963, the five storey Roblin's Mill was dismantled and rebuilt at Black Creek Pioneer Village in Toronto. Other important features of the site include the remains of a log skidway On the southwest section 0f the PODd, the foundations Of three houses, an ashery and copper ShOP- The log skidway was used to tranSPOrt the logs down the Escarpment to the south. 581’ i jrv LEGEND M ED FOREST IIEEIIIIIII flEflflmï¬ï¬‚fll WASHROOM waxwo OOKOUT Pl NIC AREA EOARDWALK GROVE EMETERV
