ACTIVITIES July 22, 1993 - Our regular monthly meeting for July was held "out of the county†this year. It was a most \ Photos by Daisy Wannamaker beautiful day when several carloads full of Rednersville WI members and friends decided to head out for Amherst Island, to the home of the friend of one of our members, Margaret Durrant to visit Mrs. Jean Baker, who retired to a beautiful stone house typical 0f the Kingston limestone era of the 1800's. we all took something for a delicious lunch, and were joined by the WI of the island. many of us had never been on the ferry before and as the hostess lives at the ï¬ar end of the island we were able to see a fair bit of the terrain. Very similar to that of Prince Edward, many cottages along the water, but also permanent farm buildings as well. The original farm house has undergone many renovations over the past few years, but has a distinct character of its own, with its huge shade trees surrounding the home and lawns leading to the water‘s edge. Some were able to see through the house and others roamed the property before the actual meeting began. Our Role Call for the day was "Why I am Proud'to Be a Canadian Citizenâ€. The answers varied of course, as a few had recently immigrated here from other places. But the results all expressed the view that this country was the place to be in comparison to what the rest of the world is suffering through at this time. Every person present had something positive to say and we san'gâ€0 Canada“ with pride. our President, Marion Townsend, conducted the meeting sitting under a huge shade tree and the rest of the members and guests brought their lawn chairs and arranged them in a huge circle. As ferry schedules are set we had to be on our way home in order to catch the return voyage, or else it would be an hour wait. It was a most enjoyable day and we all appreciated Margaret's unique idea. that also made the afternoon’s'o’ interesting was the fact that the Tweedsmuir history Curator gave us a complete account of the history of the island, their WI and other pertinent information. There were also a variety of history books, and their Tweedsmuir Histories on display. } 03L;
