ACTIVIT IE8 Planning for the "Event of the Year for county WI‘S" began in January 1993. Many Pot Luck dinners were held at the home of Mary Lou Norton, Program Cowordinator, beginning in the morning and continuing well in to the afternoons, Over the years all our county WI'S would meet for an afternoon and review the work done by their various groups, the morning would be devoted to business and perhaps time for a guest speaker. However, in 1993 with funds acquired from the 1992 Craft Sale it was decided to change the format of this kind of day, We took the plunge deciding to sell tickets for a dinner to be catered for by the Odd Fellows and Rebeccas at $lOQOO a plate. Then we decided to invite a prominent speaker for the afterâ€"dinner-speech. Mrsr, (Dre) Ellen McLean, Past President of the Associated County Women of the World, agreed to be our Speaker. She and her husband drove from Nova Scotia, so combined business with pleasure. Our District President, Mrs. Marlene Corfield, ably conducted the evening's program. Each WI had a part in the program and the Rednersville Branch had a skit with Marion Townsend playing "Pack Up Your Troubles" while members presented a short, amusing comment on what our WI had done during the last World War in aid of our servicemen. The following members took part, Evelyn Peck, Margaret Vandervelde, Nellie Montgomery, Margaret Durrant, Linda Dulmage, Frances Young, and Audra Brickman. Other WI's covered different areas of WI projects and community work peculiar to their onench. Invitations went to our Provincial President, Margaret Eberle, Peggy Knapp, AGWW Area President, Provincial board Members, Beatrice harry, Rosemai'y‘Moranflhe harden, Reeves and their wives, the Msyor of Picton. The event was held at the Community Centre in Picton on May 20, 1993. A shortened District Annual was held at 4pm at the Free Methodist Church just across from the Centre dealing with the previous years business in Prince Edward, Following this meeting all adjourned to the Centre for a dinner beginning at 7 pm. All accounts say the meal was excellent and the hundreds were served quickly. A birthday cake was cut by all those branches celebrating, their birthdays in 1993. They are as follows: 85th for Bloomfield, Wellington, Cherry Valley, Gilbert"s Mills, and Mountain View, and 80th for Consecon. Special mention was made of Audra Brickman"s 76 years as an Institute member and Audra helped to cut the cake. need Table: hora Barber, beatrice harry, Donnah Hussett, Peggy Knapp Marlene Corfield, Dr, Mcbean, Cindy Gender, warden, Mary Ellen Closson Flossie Tripp, Wellington, Bev O'Shea, Cherry Valley, Geri Manlow, Bloomfield Elda Brooks, Gilbert's Mills, Nome Hamilton, Mountain View, Rena Cunningham, Consecon, in front Audra Brickman, Marlene Corfield Rednersville ,, r». ,/ «EC? .352, '1' 3o
