CONSECON WOMEN'S INSTITUTE CELEBRATES 50th ANNIVERSARY The United Church Hall. Consecon, was filled to capacity on Tuesday afternoon. April 23, 1963, when w.1. members from the Various branches in the district joined Consecon W.I. to help celebrate its 50th anniversary. Mrs“ Alex Rattray was in charge of registration after which the guests were placed at quartette tables centred with yellow daffidols. spring flowers and multiâ€"coloured Easter Bonnets added a touch of spring to the historic event. Mrs. G. Calnan, as President, extended a welcome to the guests and especially thanked everyone for coming out in the stormy weather and helping to make the day a success. The program consisted of a number from each branch which included piano selections, readings, vocal solos and a humorous monologue. Mrs Sherman Foster spoke briefly with regards to branch cuntors sending in reports to her before the District annual. She also mentioned Prince Edward being in line for a third Viceâ€"President for the area and asked that we keep this in mind. The area would aPpTeCiate any new ideas for the canvention and suggested Prince Edward giving a number for the program at the evening session of the convention. Mrs. Galen asked for the daughters of any Consecon charter member to stand up, there being only two present, namely Mrs. Sam Fbrsythe, and Mrs Roy Tripp. The District President, Mrs Earl Onderdonk was then called on to say a few words and she brought Greetings from the District and congratulated Consecon W.I. for having achieved 50 years of service to Home and Country. Timely topics with regards to W.I. coming events were also brought to mind. Before lunch was served. Mrs. Boss Bush, the only life member of Consecon W.I. was asked to cut the anniversary cake which was the centre of attraction on the tea table. Before performing the duty, Mrs Bush expressed her appreciation for having this honour, and in a few fitting words paid tribute to the late Mrs. W.W. Ward who was the founder of Consecon w.I. and a faithful capable leader for a good number of years. A detecable lunch of fancy sandwiches, relishes, cookies, tarts and cake was served with Mrs. Earl Underdonk and Mrs. G Galen presiding at the tea table and a social time was spent over the tea cups. K vote of thanks was tendered Consecon for the pleasent afternoon and another chapter was closed in the history of Consecon W,I.
