14 ‘ THE REPORT OF THE N0. 38 Community life is a reflection of the home life. Women have recognized that whatever elevates the home life is a blessing to the Community and in the hands of women lies the making of future homes andlnations. If a woman is to make a success she must have intelligence, enthumasm, energy, grit and a lot of other essentials. It is true there is no place like home, therefore we must add to its comforts, subtract from its annoyances, divide its blessings and multiply its happiness if we would fill 'the place in life that a woman was meant to fill. We must go forth with high purpose in fulfilling life’s service for home and country. We meet to-day as sisters in one great cause for the bettering of home and country. Let “Service” be our motto. When we receive such a welcome as we have listened to to-night from the Viceâ€"President of the Local Council of WomenY We are grateful and we feel assured that We are welcome. As we return to our homes we will carry with us not only your words of welcome but the co-operation of your council and the different organizations of this city in our work under the banner for Home and Country. _ I trust that we may not only benefit by being here but that much good may come from our meeting together in 1923. “Let us each in loving mood, Each help each through life's short span,‘ If we can’t do all we would, Let us do the best we can.” FARM YOUR OWN DIAMONDS. EMILY J. GUEST, M.A., TORONTO. No one is satisfied with his environment. Everybody is hungeringâ€"for something. Yet probably no one could be found who would exchange his condition of life in its entirety for that of anyone else. Parts of it, a bit here and there, yes, certainly. But there would always be the reservations, the conditions or posses~ sions about which each would say, “Oh, I ivant to keep that. I Would not give that up for anything in the other person’s power to 036R” 30 When the complete summing up came to be made, he would find that the favourable balance was on the side of his own environment. The reason for this would be found in his own personality. Individual conditions are largely the result of individual character. Charâ€" acter is partly inherited, partly made. To a great extent, each person has made and is making his character by the opportunities in his daily life which he accepts or rejects. The thoughts each thinks, with their resulting desires and consequent action, the one growing out of the other as steadily and surely as do the root, the blade, the ear of the corn, just as steadily and surely produce his environment. Thus that of his own creating, because it is his own, suits him better on the whole than that of any other’s making, however dazzling it may appear at first glance. YEC the truth remains that no one is satisfied with his environment. Largdy, this is due to the fact that, being spiritual as well as physical, man is capable of infinite growth. What was satisfying last year is not enough for this year. '
