Ross was born in what was then named East Zorra Town- ship and farmed there until he opened an auctioneering busi-- ness with his wife Rose. Ross later moved the business to Pat- tullo Avenue, where he ran the Woodstock Sales Barn until the 1979 tornado. He retired as an auctioneer in November 1994. "Wallie was a friend of my fa- ther's and of myself," said Ken Sommers, past master of Tavis- tock Masonic Lodge 609, of which Ross was a long-time member. "He was outgoing and always made you feel happy. If you went to one of his auctions you wouldn't forget him." Ross was also a councillor in East Zorra Township in 1968 and represented the township at the county level as deputy reeve in 1969 and 1970 and as reeve in 1971 and 1972. "When people think of Oxford County, they think of Wallie Ross," said county Warden Ed Down. "He was one of those per- sonalities who could come into a room and bring some happiness. He had farmed in East Zorra Township where he and his wife Rose started an auc- tioneering business.
