s.s.# 7 CAESAREA Mrs. Shepherd‘s log house (see map) was used both as a school and church This house was built in 1849by Jacob Muirhead, Mrs. Shepherd's father. The site of another early Caesarea School was near the George Lansing cottage. There is no record as to when the first frame bldg. was erected on the S-S-#7 site. At the gnnual meeting in 1870 those attending were t D. Deacon, Jno. Elliot, Jno. Proutt, Jae. Brown, Paul Fryer, Jno, McLenathem, Geo. Crozier, Thos Williams, Ma. Martin, Jno. McCalister Jno. watson,N. Lett- -arville, Mr. Miller, Jacob Muirhead, Jas. Parr. In 1872 there was a motion that the school become a free school for the current year. Money to be raised for school purposes by a general rate of the section. In 1874 a new school of wood and brick was built at a cost . Of $850.00. During the next few years Improvements were made such as a new floor and double desks installed. Several meeting were held regarding the well which was poor. On account of the weal it was considered that "r--' school should be moved to a more suitable site however the matter was overcome to meet with the requirements of? the Bd. of Health and the school remained on the same site. In 1900 the trustees were , Jno. Vincent,Peter Wright,Paul Prayer, I Thos. McDermott, W.J.Beacock,Jno. watson. These men took this declaration; "I---------" the township of Cartwright do affirm and say that I will truly and faithfully to the best of my judgement and ability discharge the duties of the office of school trustee to which I have been elected." Many improvements were made as the years went by both inside and outside the school. In 1916 an additional piece of land,8rd. by 10rd. was pmrchased _ to the west of the school. In 1921 it was moved and carried that the [ section go Into the Continuation school system and Percy Edgerton was elected to go on the Continuation School Board. In 1925 the section dis- continued to support the Continuation School in Blackstock but later took it up again. _ The school was kept in good repair with many Improvements. In 1950 when the township schools were graded Caesarea accommodated grades 4,5 and part of 6 with Mrs. Harold Crawford (Bessie Edgerton) as teacher. In1954 When Cartwright Central School opened Caesarea school was sold to Harold T Beacock who turned it into a house which was purchased by Ronald Philp and later by Percy Prayer.
