Education In Cartwright Township N The first settlers came to Cartwright around 1834. In 1838 the adult male population was 9. The first school was built around 1845 and several more thereafter. The early schools were of log structure and the following sections came into being In the township ' T #1 Archers fi Blackstock 5 Devitts #4 Purple Hill #5 Cadmus _ #6 Mahoods #7 Caesarea #8 Egypt #9 Cedardale Archers, Blackstock, Devitts, Purple Hill and Egypt are in our Blackstock Tweedsmuir History area ( the other four are in Nestleton area ) but in this book we will deal with each of the school sections in the township. On the following page is an excellent History of Cartwright schools written in 1955 and also a sample of examination papers of 1888.
