It was she, my sister Laura, who told me of the time when l was four years old,and I was taken to see that old cemetery by my mother, and when I saw'the neme,George Henry hambley, I am reported to have said,"That's me,what s dead". I'm not much on records, but i do think that would be a record anywhere in any family. My mother did it by reasoning Like this, she said,"The soul of my dear little boy, at the age of four, should not be left to roam, even in Heaven,so I'll raise this other lad, so he'll have a good body". (And who is there to prove that she may not have been wrong?).(Yes, or she may have been right). Well, anyway, when dohn Hambley moved into Fort Ferry,he started to bubld that bog square frame hpuse, and when I was still a baby in arms,I was carried(so my sister tells me),down to that new house which believe is still standing there yet. Thentwo years ahter: that on November 27 1998 my brother John Joseph was born in that house. John was the one who founded the extensive Hambley Hatcheries, the first one to raise the boby chicks, and his son,Bryan now Operated the Hatchery in Abbottsford. b.C.Another son Bruce operated the hatchery in "dmonton for many years. If you wish to have any verification of any of these details, you may contact my Uncle Sac: [v'1ciuaugh1instsiamily, who are hrs Alma laylor of -fS1aclc.- stock, and Harry ,stilliving on the home farm near Nestleton. Now if I were to follow this up and tell of them all, you would have the histhrycd'the whole country, especially the Brocks, Parrs, Dickies, Baileys, and on my Clrand... mother's side all the ivlar1ows,goodraess me, you would never come to the end ed them all.Add in all the McLaughlins, including the famous Col.Sam of the thaughlin car, and the General Jhot0rs,0eorg,e AcLaughlim the builder of so . many houses and buildings in Toronto. . ‘hen if you like to go away baï¬k in my story, remenber when i mentioned that my Grandfather had a ucaugs4 William, well he was the father of" a big V family too, some of them still in Oshawa, end in Toronto, and other places across Canada.(the Joe that you mentioned was dne of them). I think the book you mentioned about Roland where so many of the folks from that district in Ontario went to, was my book,"The Trails Of The Pi- eer",which ' published when t was the minister of' the United Church in ROI... and in the years 1950- 54. Sorry,1 can‘t let you have a copy of' it, as I have sold them all out except two copies, and I must not let them go. But I did find at Roland, many of' the families that you have named. [ beginning "s for the begthitgoCthe old Bethel Church,I'm sorry again that I can help you very little. But i have right here a very precious copy of the book, "On the Shores Of Scugog",written by Samuel Farmer, l have no doubt that you will have this book. it gives a remarkable story of the beginnings of the schools, the Churches, even the towns too, Port Perry among them, and so on. My sister uaura, the Missionary has copiously annotated this old book, and added many notes in it that are very rare, and priceless. Laura also did a great deal of work on what she called the McLaugh- -lin Record",'his work traced the hustory of the family on the l“cLaughlin side to the Maslows, then the h'agermans, who were the U.h.Loyalists, coming in 1785. I have a fine book, "The frail of the black Walnut" by Elmore Reaman which tellaof the families who came with the U.L.L.people. if I can help you in any way, more than this, I will be glad to give you what information I can. i r' Sincerely 5c)urs,-- /,"), / 'it ,/1 “/7 "r, ,1qu J' Cu,.' _ w" 4cc /r’ f "cCCCr
