Page 1 of 3 Does anyone actually believe this? & f written by Bob Owen Saturday, 16 June 2012 18:38 As the deâ€"consecration of Trinity Anglican Church was unfolding, former Cramahe resident, Tom Philp wrote an email on June 11 to Bishop Linda Nicholls, expressing his concerns about the impending closure. $ We were incredulous when we read her reply, and with the permission of Mr. § Philp, have posted his letter and her response for our readers. Her failure to P answer the direct questions asked was a political, if dubious, masterpiece. The congregation did not make the decision to close. It accepted closure but at no time did it agree with the Diocese decision. And in their letter of appeal to * the Bishop late in April, the church wardens offered two possible ways forward. They received no response from the Diocese to their proposal to attempt to find an amenable solution with St. George‘s Anglican in Grafton, or for the creation of a Commission under Canon 13 4(2)b. The commission was itself a proposal the Bishop made to the congregation on Feb. 26,2012. Mr. Philp wrote â€" Dear Bishop Nicholls: 3 e I write to you today as a person who was raised in Colborne, Ontario, attended services at Trinity Anglican in that village, was married in St. Paul‘s Anglican in Brighton, Ontario, and whose three children were baptized in Anglican churches â€" in Meaford, Sioux Lookout and Peterborough, Ontario. Throughout my childhood, the warmth and welcoming nature of Trinity Anglican‘s parishioners kept bringing me back its fold. I have lost track of the number of baptisms, marriages and funerals 1 have attended at that small white church building in Colborne. It has always been a place of celebration, both in life and in death, with generations of families faithfully supporting both the congregation and the diocese. Its members have contributed faithfully to 4 the church‘s missions at home and abroad; and Trinity has been the birthplace : of a number of community initiatives to help people in need.
