h. *e ty 1 Lord Tweedsmuirâ€"15th Governor General of Canada John Buchan, known in Canada as Baron Tweedsmuir, % was born in Perth, Scotland on August 26th, 1875. He was educated at Glasgow University and Brasnose College and entered law at Middle Temple in 190l1. Also in 1901 he became private secretary to Lord Milver of the British House of Lords. He then went to South Africa and in 1903 he returned . to England to become a member of the publishing firm of Thomas Nelson & Sons in Edinborough. During World War 1 he served on the staff of Lloyd George who was then the Prime Minister and the last Liberal to ever hold that office. In 1927 he became a member of Parliment for the Scottish Universities and in 1935 he was appointed Governor General of Canada and with this honour he was raised to the British peerage and thus earned the title of Lord Tweedsmuir of Elsfield. In 1932 he was named a companion of Honour and in 1937, he was sworn in as a member of the privy council.. Alson in 1937, he was elected chancellor of Edinborough University. On the sidelines of his political commitments Baron Tweedsmuir was an author and wrote many literary works such as "The Thirty Nine Steps" in 1915. In 1916 He wrote "Greenmantle"and"Mr. Standfast"in 1919. He died February 11, 1940.
