ADELAIDE HUNTER HOODLESS ' ADELAIDE HUNTER HOODLESS WAS &A WOMAN OF INTELLIGENCE AND EDUCATION;but when her first baby died she felt that he might have livedif she had known more about how to take care of a baby.So she lead a campaign for clean milk in her city of Heamilton,and a crusade to have homemakingâ€" Household Scienceâ€" included in every girl‘s education in public school, ._ with special courses available at colleges ans universities.All of this was accomplished before her death at the age of fiftyâ€" two.She died Feb. £5,1910. Mrs. Hoodless also wanted homemaking education for women who were already mothers of young children. She spoke of this at a meeting of Ontario Farmers‘ Experimental Union;and Erland Lee, a young farmer of Stoney Creek, offered to organize a meeting of the women of his townâ€" ship, Saltfleet, if Mrs. Hoodless would speak to them.Following this meeting the world‘s first WOMEN‘S INSTITUTE was organized at STONEY CREEK ONTARIO, on February 19th,1897.Its purpose: BETTER HOMES AND A BETTER COMMUNITY LIFE.
