ul en i i L. C a The Womens Institute. In the spring of 1935 Jack Barnes, a young man whh worked for ' MNr. Harol® Honey met with an accident in the woods breaking a leg and had to be hospitalized. The women of the district thought they would like to help him financially. They made a quilt and sold ticketson it. On March 1l3th @;é;;%kfiaines, Wells and Edwards with 4. help of others made a quilt, and quilted it. They also held a silver tea. The quilt was displayed in Mr. Farmerse window. They realized $ 43.00 on it. At this quilting they decided to form a Womens Institute. Vrs. Roberts District President and Miss Mc Lelland of Whitby were invited to Mrs. Edwards home on May 8th£¥6 meet the women of t the district and the Honeydale Institute was formed. Mrs Edwards was the first President . They held euchre parties to raise money and also made ‘ quilts. In 1939 Mrs. Lawson Honey became President, she remained in office nine years. For nineteen years she never missed a meeting. (surely a record).
