Events 1 l move very fast nowadays; houses are pulled down, new _ g :3 roads are made, and the aspect of the countryside changes I , i completely sometimes in a short time. f 1 l It is a most useful and satisfying task for Women's 2 f l Institute members to see that nothing valuable is lost or l forgotten, and women should be on the alert always to l i, guard the traditions of their homes, and to see that water ‘ y' colour sketches and prints, poems and prose legends l s l should find their way into these books. The oldest people ': i 2 in the village will tell us fascinating stories of what they 3 l i remember, which the younger members can write down, l l i thus making a bridge between them and events which T l :7 happened before they were born. After all, it is the f ', history of humanity which is continually interesting to ‘ . f '1 us, and your village histories will be the basis of I .' accurate facts much valued by historians of the future. i' l I am proud to think that you have called them ’ _ l "The Tweedsmuir Village Histories". _ 3 -Written by Lady Tweedsmuir.
