July 3 1912. The annual meeting of Shirley Women's Institute well repaid the efforts put forth to make it a sucess. The grounds were beautifully decorated with flags, flowers, chinese lanterns etc. while above all floated the school flag on the recently erected pole. Dr. Smillie gave mandy practical pointers on how to secure the Joy in Life. Mr. Benson of the Agricultureal Department at Whitby gave pointers on how to secure more hen eggs. Mrs Balmer, Dist. Secretary also spoke shortly to us. The music was good,especially‘Mr J. Smith description of the pumpkin pie Mother used to make. k number of Institute members also assisted ably on the program. The next regular meeting is at Mrs Wm. Darcy's July 10, at 2 PM. where MissMabel Franklin will tell us how to get easy meals in berry time and Miss Sybil Hocken will speak on the Influence of cooking on National Health and vigour. M. Graham. . August 7 1912. The meeting at Mrs Wm. Darcy's was very interesting and everyone went home well satisfied. The delegate-to the district annual gave her report which was comprehensive and well received. Miss Mabel Franklin gave us some helpful hints on how to serve meals easily in berrytime. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs E. Fice Shirley. where the Columbus branch is to visit us and furnish the program. Shirley branch will provide the luncheon and each member ls especially asked to be present at the meeting, so all may enjoy the undoubted benefit therefrom. Do not forget the date Aug. 11 at hrs. Fice's Shirley. August 28 1912. The picnic at Mrs T Lambe's where the Columbus branch was to join forces with Shirley did not materialize, owing to sickness in that lady's home. The meeting at hrs Fice's instead was especially interesting, being crammed full of business and interest. Miss Hocken’s gave an inspiring paper on the influence of cooking on Health and Vigour. The picnic will occur at Mrs Lambe's at Prince Albert on September hth and all the arrangements that were made for Aug hold good for Sept. hth. We expect a good time and a large crowd. September 11 1912. The meeting at Mrs T. Lambe's was a pronounced success, both Shirley and Columbus making a good 3 showing of members. Much mutual benefit was derived and all seemed in the best of humour with "i', the principles of Women's Institutes. The following program was given. Forster M.D. of h Blackstock on Home Remedies and by Mrs James Byers onthe storing of vegetables for winter use. Everyone not there certainly missed a treat. The next meeting at Mrs Joe Strong's Nov. 6 is g to be especially full of good things. Papers by Mrs Alex Vance on The Preservation of' Neat b and by Mrs Hocken on the Waste of Tnjudieious Buying. November 6 1912 The last meeting of Women's Institute was held at the hone of Mrs Jos Strong. Thougha heavy rain fell ' yet about thirty members were present. Several interesting were read and enjoyed. The annual Convention of Women's Institute was held in Toronto last week. Mrs Darcy and Mrs Freeborn acted as delegates from Shirley Institute and report a favourable time. Hf) ' Second Notice. r.. i', The meeting at hrs Jos Sirong's was well attended and very interesting. Besides some very exce- . 1lent papers. hrs Marlow of Blackstock gave a demonstration on his vacuum cleaner and a few other handy contrivances were also exhibited. The next meeting December 11 is to be at Mrs Leith Byers where a properly set Dinner Table will be on view as a help to the daily serving of every day meals. Also a report of the Toronto Delegates will be given and discussed and papers by ' cs Mrs Hocken and Miss Woods.
