. This Woodruff genealogy project was started in March of 2000. It began with no l training in genealogy and has been for the most part self taught. In these few short' years the presentation of information has changed and will probably continue to do so as experience ': dictates. This is for now, a rough outline of hopefully more inclusive work to come at a future date. This genealogy centers on the Woodruff name but also includes the many other surnames ' branches. _ Information for this Woodruff family tree has come from many sources. While doing research, I have had the opportunity of coming in contact with many previously unknown "Cousins" who have provided very helpful information. The plan is to include acknowledgment of their contribution in future work. Census reports and other vital statistic documents such as birth, marriage and death have been copied as they were originally written out This information is not always accurate or even V legible. The person or persons giving the information may not have remembered or even known E certain events in the persons life for whom they were informing for. This may show up as i. obvious mistakes to someone comparing the different documents today. Personal handwriting E styles and the lack of legibility sometimes forces a decision in interpretation that may not prove i to be correct, !, The intemet has been a indispensable tool in creating this work, it however has not been the only tool. Many hours were spent at the L.D.S. genealogy library going through microfilms of old, often hard to read documents. The intemet, among other functions serves as an index to 5 find information that exists somewhere else. Another function of the intemet is the discovery of i .and communication with other family members. I have not entered this family tree on any intemet sites, however having your family tree on the intemet is a great way to build it. You can connect with people who have already researched information you need. It can sometimes save years of effort. This however can bring up privacy issues for people still living. For this reason only the names of living members are I shown and no dates are kept in the data base. E There is much left that could be done to make this a more inclusive work, There are obviously many more branches of the tree to research. Personal narratives from family members I who remember earlier times or stories from their parents are of usually great interest to others. f Along with the narratives, more pictures of people and places could be added to make it less E statistical and more personal. As of this date, the Sydenham High School web site has a section ', on historical Sydenham with many great pictures. It would have'been helpful to include them, ':: but it would require the permission of their owners. _ Hope you enjoy what there is so far and any contributing information would be very welcomed and appreciated. l Roy Woodruff '; December 21, 2003 , i, l
