ISAAK NEVA â€" S& Lot 4, Comession 2 Isaac Neva, with his wife Sofia and eldest son Lauri, arrived in Canada from Finland in 1900. Isaak Neva‘s father, Jack Porrasmaki, had been in Camda since 1886, but he died in 1900 shortly after his son‘s arrival. The Neva‘s first lived in Copper Cliff until 1913 when they purchased 160 acres from V. Hietala at a cost of $1.00 per acre. The farm is located on what is now known as Black Lake Road. 'I;'ne following year they built a frame house and a log barn, and by 1915 the Neva family oirned a horse and three cows which they purclhased in Garson. As was the custom with the early Finnish settlers a steambath was built at the same time as the other dwellings. The steambath served them until 1940 when a new one was built. ‘ Electricity was installed in 1950, telephone in 1954; and indoor plumbing in 1958. Isaac Neva and his wife hnd 11 children: Lauri, Willian, Tyyne, Verner, John, Toivo, Felix, Edward, Earl, Helvi and Niilo. At HMarch, 1970, Verner, Edward and Earl are s till residents of the Township. Until his death in 1934 Isaak Neva carried on mixed fariming on the property. His widow continued living on the farm until her death in 1960, and the son Vernar Neva operated the farm into the sixties, when it was sold to Gerald Jeffrey.
