as some work could be dangerous to staff and patrons. The window was taken out of the wall and replaced with a door. I lost all 14 branch hours a week and would do work for the board, six hours a week, at Colborne branch. Castleton branch closed May 23rd, 2008. At the June 18th, 2008 board meeting I was fired as Chief Executive Officer and Secretary. My last day of work was July 2, 2008. At this time, I wish to thank all the patrons of Castleton branch for their support, loyalty and friendship over the past 21 years. On February 23rd, 1931, officers of the Women's Institute and the Dramatic Club met to establish a public library in Castleton. A W.I. representative has sat on the Castleton/Cramahe library board since that time. The most recent representatives were Gwen Lawrason, Beth May and Margaret McMichael. The Town Hall caught fire the evening of March 20th, l978 and _ Castleton patrons had the opportunity to use the Coiborne library while renovations were completed. Libraries are widening their focus. It is not Just lending books anymore. other service that were offered at Castleton were: -. genealogy research opportunities, photocopy and tax service, washroom facilities, internet service, cemetery and census reords and family histories. There were a number of volunteers who said they would help clean the library after construction was over, so the only cost would have been cleaning supplies. The construction crews did their best to keep the dirt and dust down but everything still got dirty. A meeting was held September 10th, 2008 for the public to voice their opinions on whether it is necessary to re-open the library or not. After 77 years of service to the community, it is very sad to see it closed. The community said they do not want the library to close permanently. The library board set up a committee to discuss the rennovation, purchases, etc. and costs to re-open the branch with a date of possibly the late Fall of 2009. _
