Members were guests of Pleasant View W.1., enjoying a delicious supper and meeting. She displayed her serapbook, crafts and souvenits obbained. Ladies from Forester‘s Falls W.L. were guests at this supper neeting. Mrs. Manford Bohn, Bistrice President, attended the November meeting and gave warp and rules for a strong family as she spoke on the topic, "Pamily". A letterwas sent to Westmeath Council in suppors of a recycâ€" l ling program. j \. In 1989, Mrs. Darwin Burgess sboke on Sweden for our Internationgsl meeting. She showed slides and gave an excellent commentary of her family‘s sevenâ€"month stay there. She served ‘ Swedish food for lunch. A request from Rlen Martin to use the Laurentian View Hall yard for a FElea Market was granted. Members helped by donating items for sale, food and help for the District sale held at Bromley Halâ€"l. Sale profic was used to purchase a whee! chair for cach of the Pembroke hospitals. o4 s â€" ) Mrs. Lois 0‘Brian, a nurse for Renfrew CGounty Health Unit, described a totally healthy person, stressing exercise, woelght loss, decreaged fav and avoidance of stress. Nrs. barry Reaburn was a guest speaker, topiec, "Agriculture in the Classroom" â€" a new program to create an awareness of where food comes from. She explained the kit being put in all schools. Mrs. Kidd reported on the workshop, "Challange and Eun of}Waste Management!" which she had attended. Mrs. Hector Robinson arranged a guided tour. of: Unifirst Canada, where members were shown how patterns are nade, cut in quantity and pants, shints and coveralls manufactured. Lake Dore W.L. members were entertained at a supper meeting, with Mrs. Elmer Hawthorn demongtrating making macramse lawn chairs. Right members attended a dinner meeting hosted by Micksbursg W.LI. S1ides and commentary on Feuador and the Galapagos Islands were enjoyed. Mrs. Marvin Melaughlin reported on tho Area Conventzon that she and Mrs. Owen K1dd had attended. s & In 1990, Branch Life Memberships new cost $75.00. Mrs. Reggy Mceheod gave an excellent presentation on India at our February meeting. Mrs. Marvin Melaughlin commented on the worthwhile tour sponsored by Renfrew County Health Unit, on !Shopping for Health". A donation of $250.00 was made towards the District project of furnishing a room in the Children‘s Wing of the Genmneral Hesproal. _A stove was purchased for use at the W.L. Hall. Mrs. Harold BDougherty, guest speaker at our Grandmother‘s meebing, gave a vory descriptive talk on a trip that she and four other Begchburs Fadies had takenm,to Hawaii. / Highlights of the "Conventron ‘90" theme, "Women and the Environment", held in Ottawa, were given by Mrs. Owen Kidd. Mrs, Marvin McelLaughlin attended this very successful conâ€" â€" vention. Dr., Daryin Burgess conducted one of the workshops. . Members onjoyed a picnie lunch and craft bour, thanks to driver, Nrs«. Maryin MeDbaughlin. Institute members from Lockslyâ€"Rankin were guests at a suppor meeting. Migss Trudy Desjardins, a Guelph graduate, spoke to the group telling how she.always thought about agriculture with farming foremost. She gave statistics on farming in Renfrew County. She manages the cavtle on a large dairy farm that she and her brother share in Westmeath Townâ€" ship. & quiz related to farming was enjoyed. f § : Mrs. Kidd reported on the Area Convention that she and Mrs. McelLaughlin had attended. Next year‘s Convention will be a oneâ€"day convention, held in Kempoville. Branch fees will increasge by $3.00 per year until 1991. S#our members attended a delicious buffet supper, program and . auction sale, guesus of Lake Doreâ€"Women‘s Institube. Due to very inclement weather, we were excused before the business meeking. A motion that our collection be raised to $1.00 was passed. I $20.00 donation was sent to bhe Festival of Lights Project (Civic Hospital) in memory of Mre. Joe MceLaughlin. Mes.
