Past members, Provincial Board members, District President, District Secretary, and members from Beachburg, Westmeath, Zion Line, Snake River, Pleasant View, Foresters Falls and Greenwood branches attended. Our Tweedsmuir histories, secretary books, and photograph albums vere on display. Present was Florence Mick a member of Micksburg W.I. for 66 years. Minutes of the organizational meeting were read. The late Hildred Coughlin had helped organize Laurentian View branch in March 1951. Cobden Sun editor Marie Zettler took pictures. Gifts were received money gifts and congratulations from many. She stressed the importance of buying local fresh produce to help Renfrew County Economy. Christine Reaburn District President visited us. She spoke and showed slides on the FWIC Convention she attended in Victoria. 1992Fees were raised to $9. in April. Mary Johnson gave an interesting talk on Finland her homeland, program for Internatio nal Night. She showed pictures of her grandparents home and articles she treasured . At our Grandmothers meeting we had a speaker from the Genealogical Society of the Upper Ottawa Valley a group desiring to preserve local history records. Information can *. obtained from church records, Renfrew Mercury, libraries and cemeteries which they are transcribing. Neil Wright repaired the roof of the hall, painted it and fixed woodwork at the ‘ front for a cost of $400. Seven white pine trees donated by Ministry of Natural Resources were planted by Joyce Bradbury around the yard at the hall. Connie Robinson spoke on GATT General Agreement of Tariff and Trade for a program on Agriculture USâ€"Canada Trade agreement has put pressure on other countries. The future oftgariffg is being threatened. For Canadian Industries program our members took a tour to Bayview Ecology abd Bait Farm: Helen Robeertson explained the raising of wormsâ€"castings are used as organic soil conditioner. Each member received a small sample. We entertained Snake River Branch. Gwen Kidd made sure we knew the duties andâ€" responsibilities of the job we had in W.I. ' Speaker Michael Bradbury of the Ministry of Correctional Services talked on Family Law and his experiences as probation officer in Pembroke. 1 993For International Night we studied our own country of Canada. “ Gwen Kidé reported on a Leadership Workshop she attended in Renfey. It included CC media reporting, Parliamentary procedures and qualities of leaders, etc. FWIO has requested each member pay one metre or 39 loonies to help pay for Headâ€" quarters. Some responded. We had given financial support for the expedition of Alex Smith to Puerto Rico.
