Salvation Army and a gift exchange with a social tome. International Nightâ€"Mrs.John Kennedy spoke on her _ trip to China.They walked the Great Wall of Cmry,tea factory,craft factory and were very careful what they ate and drank.It was very different. , 1994 was designated as The Year of the Family"and concern for composting and conservatâ€" ' lon of water was a theme for our WI programs. Members attended the Cheesecake Tea the first one to be held at the Pembroke Catering Hall. _ District Annual was held at Greenwood in the eveningâ€"dessert at 6:30 p.m. with the meetâ€" ing to follow. Susan deHaan District PRO spoke at our Grandmothers meeting on the work of W.I.and our involvement in the 1994 IPM.We welcomed Joan Derouin whe reâ€"joined our branch. The District sponsored a Quilt and Craft Show in CoBden Agricultural Hallon August 204 21-We donated squares and attended the show.On August 21,1994 the grand opening of the WI Heedquarters will at R.R.5 Guelph,Ni H 602. 700 door prizes are needed for the IPM.Our members donated several. We entertained Zion Line Institute members.Julianna Coulasâ€"District President spoke to «: us on the FWIC Convention she had attended in Nova Scotia.â€"the theme being Todays Family Tomorrows Future.Valerie Fisher ACWW President from Australia was present.It costs $75 a day to keep up the Hoodless Homestead. Eleanor McLaughlin,Gwen Kidd and Joyce attended the Area Convention at Greely(by bus) Peggy McLeod fromCobden.Area President and Mae Craig,Renfrew Board Directorâ€"Sub.3 conducted the meeting. Trene Kenney took us to Ireland for International Night.She showed us her trip on a large map outlining where they visited.She displayed excellent pictures and explained the countryside and culture. . We were happy to have a new member joinâ€"Marjory Gibson.We needed more help as it was Laurentian Views turn to host the District Annual. the next year.This year it was held in St.Pauls Angliican Church,Cobden hosted by Bromley a very small group.We helped and attended the Cheesecake Tea at the Pembroke Catering Hall. At the Grandmothers meeting Tina Van Grinsven from Pembroke and District Association for Community Living spoke on getting involved in community ,helping those less fortunâ€" ate who need transportation or just company. Eleanor‘ McLaughlin spoke on Cholesterol at a meeting on Health.Shs stressed the need to cut down on fats,read labels and the benefits of watching eating habits.We enjoyed a low cholester®l lunch. Members enjozed a craft tour for a summer meeting.We teavelled from Pembroke to Barrys ¢' Bali stopping at every craft shop and attraction along the way.Lunch was enjoyed at Golden : Sands Restaurant. our branch contributed food and sale items for the Rural Ramble Quilt Show and Tea and Bazaar held at Golden Lake.Gwen Kidd and Eleanor McLaughlingdelegate.) attended t’r'le.Area Convention in Embrum.Concerns were discussed.about tht.e possible closing of the Civic Hosâ€" pital in Pembroke and the disposal of waste in Deep River. , , Alice WI were guests at our October meeting.Following a potluck supper,Marjory Gibson, our member explained the progress of art from child t9 adult.Everyone enjoyed the chance to show their skills using charcoal and we were surprised at our results. â€" &
