Our branch was pleased to have two new members,Cindy Pilgrim and Gerry Therens and Lucille Whitmore rejoin. Submitted by Eleanor McLaughlin Nine members and six visitors enjoyed a delicious pot luck supper at our Grandmotheâ€" rs meeting.GwenKidd gave an informative talk on the restructure of W.I.in Canada. She encouraged us to tell our neighbours about W.I.and invite them to our meetings. Wear our W.I.badges to all meetings. In June topic was Elder Abuse and Prevention Week.Hazel Hawthorne introduced Cardlyn Dodds who spoke on financial abuse of elderly.She gave much advice on care of cards,pension cheques direct deposit,signing and trust among financial advisors. On June 3,our W.I.members put on entertainment and provided lunch for Seniors at Country Retirement Home at Beachburg. On June 4,Laurentian View members were entertained by Zion Line W.I. at the Anglican Church in Cobden for supper and progranm. ; , Although our W.I.Hall has been a landmark for many years,it was realized that it was impossible to keep it up any longer.Hydro costs,yard maintenance,and the need for the building were important factors to consider.A motion was made by Irene Kenney and sezonged by Marjory Gibson that we sell the hall,A secret ballot resulted in a 6â€"2 vote to sell. For Canadian Industries program,.in August Eleanor MclLaughlin or i c & } ganized a tour to Eddy Match Ltd.Steve OConnor conducted an excellent informative tour through the planT exgiaining the processes from setting up to shipping of matches.We enjoyed lunch at Williams Coffee Pub. We put up displays at both Beachburg and Cobden Fairs. In September our members helped greatly at the Rural Ramble wherewe took quilts ; took Eood for lunch and for sale table and set up the display at the Orange Hall in Beachâ€" burg for our District. 1In’0ctobe§ five of our members and two friends enjoyed a trip to Ottawa with our chauffeur C1n§y ?ilgrim for a program on Citizenship & Legislation.We toured the Parliament Buildings on a guided tour,listened to Question Period.but did not get to talk to our member Hector Clouthier.Our side trips to Pizza Hut,.White Rose and Bayshore were also enjoyed.
